Programme
On Friday evening, Associate Professor John Stenhouse of the History Department at Otago will give a talk relating to his research on the history of Christianity in New Zealand.
'God's Own Country or the most secular society in the Western world?: New Zealand history and historians.'
John has done a great deal of research in this area, and many of us have found his insights to be very helpful.
With regard to the Saturday, we note that there has been a great deal of change in the Theological/ Ministry education sector over the last few years. We suggest then that in the first two sessions each College/Institutions presents:
Please come prepared to talk about this.
The last session will then involve a discussion about the future of NZATS, and any common issues facing the sector as a whole that have emerged from the discussions about individual institutions. We will also have a brief AGM at that point.
** NZATS on Facebook is now set up after the 2009 AGM was held at Laidlaw College on 27 June. That meeting called for a discussion of the Constitution of the Association before next year's AGM in Dunedin. Please go to the NZATS Facebook group to have your say **
We met from 6pm Friday 26th June (starting with a meal) to 4pm Saturday 27th June.
There was an excellent presentation from Stephen Garner on the Saturday morning. Click here for a pdf of his slides.
There is another wonderful presentaion from Ruth Smith regarding Spirtual Formation. Click here for the pdf of these slides.
We have decided to meet in Auckland , at Laidlaw College (formerly Bible College of New Zealand). In recent years we have met in Wellington, but Stella Maris has now closed, and we have been unable to find another suitable venue. So Auckland seemed a good idea.
Each member of NZATS is able to send two staff to the Meeting. But since the topic is Distance Learning in Theological Education, which is a vital topic to us all I think, you should feel free to have more than two come.
Some details about the venue. Mark Nichols of Laidlaw College (who is also helping to finalise the programme) has said that accommodation on the Laidlaw campus will be on a first-in, first-served basis. Dorm accommodation (single rooms, shared bathrooms) = $25 for the night, linen included. If you would like to book a room contact Jenny Mackie - JMackie@laidlaw.ac.nz
Breakfast ($5pp) and dinner ($8pp) will be available on site.
Catering for lunches will be extra. There are motels nearby for those either not wanting student accommodation, or for whom no on-site room is available: http://www.lincolngreen.co.nz/wawcs0127117/tn-home.html is closest.
The programme is being finalised - more details very soon. Looking forward to seeing you at the Meeting.
Very best wishes
Paul Trebilco
The Annual Meeting of the Association was held in conjunction with the SBL Conference on Thursday 10 July 2008 from 11:30 to 1:30, in Old Government House at the University.
2007's AGM was held at Stella Maris, 16 Fettes Crescent , Seatoun, Wellington on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 June 2007
Each member institution is encouraged to send two representatives to the Annual General Meeting as a valuable way of keeping in touch with each other. Member institutions are also to send a brief report of significant events in the life of the institution over the last year. Please send the report from your institution to Merv Duffy ( duffy@gsc.ac.nz ) before the meeting so that it can be displayed on the website.
